    Werder Bremen have sacked coach Ole Werner after he informed the membership he wouldn’t be extending his contract.

    The 37-year-old was below contract till the top of the 2025-26 marketing campaign however indicated that he wouldn’t be renewing his deal past that time.

    “Since we’d like continuity and readability for the place of head coach sooner or later, now we have determined to let Ole go,” Bremen’s managing director for sport Clemens Fritz stated.

    “We’re actually disheartened by this resolution, as a result of we may have simply imagined working with Ole in the long run.”

    Werner, considered considered one of Germany’s main younger coaches, took over at Bremen after they had been within the second division and oversaw promotion, then regular enchancment within the Bundesliga. The workforce solely narrowly missed out on European qualification this season, ending in eighth place within the Bundesliga.

    Werner took over as Bremen coach in uncommon circumstances in November 2021 after his predecessor Markus Anfang resigned whereas dealing with an investigation into his use of a faux COVID-19 vaccine doc.

    He stated: “For me, it was clear that after my contract ends – and after 4 and a half years – a change of head coach is required to allow additional improvement.

    “That’s why I made the choice for subsequent summer season and knowledgeable the membership’s administration. I perceive Werder’s resolution from the membership’s perspective. I had an exquisite time in Bremen with my teaching workforce, unbelievable workers, an incredible squad and membership officers whose assist I at all times felt.”
