Whereas talking at a press convention with members of the media after the tip of observe, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow opened up about how “disappointing” it’s to not have Trey Hendrickson or rookie first-round draft choose Shemar Stewart in attendance.

“Ya know, [it’s] clearly disappointing,” Burrow said. “You’d wish to have all of your guys on the market Day One to attempt to construct that cohesion that I used to be speaking about earlier, however that’s not the way it often works out.”

After failing to return to an settlement on a contract extension, Hendrickson flew down to Jacksonville, Florida, where he currently remains. In keeping with The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, he received two offers from the Bengals that didn’t include “the ensures previous the primary 12 months he was on the lookout for.”

“You understand, it’s a enterprise,” Burrow sighed. “And that’s the way it’s gone.”

This isn’t the primary time that Burrow has seen the franchise botch contract negotiations. Final low season, wideout Ja’Marr Chase staged a “hold-in” where he refused to participate in practice. Although these efforts didn’t yield a contract extension on the time, they resulted in Chase signing a four-year, $161 million deal this low season.

“After all it may be irritating, however that’s the enterprise of the NFL,” Burrow defined. “That’s how issues go.”

Burrow needed to undergo contract negotiations with Cincy once they gave him a five-year, $275 million extension in 2023. He stated that he is aware of “the way it goes.”

On the finish of the day, Joe Burrow understands what Trey Hendrickson goes via. He simply needs to be paid what he feels he’s price.

“No one’s ever gonna fault the participant for doing enterprise how he feels he must,” stated Burrow. “It’s a cutthroat enterprise. You gotta struggle for the whole lot you will get. That’s the way it goes.”

Bengals head coach Zac Taylor opened his press convention earlier at present by saying he’s excited for “a contemporary begin for everyone.” Nonetheless, he added that “he had a way” Trey Hendrickson wouldn’t present up for the beginning of coaching camp.

“It’s a simple subject to hit for you all,” Taylor told reporters after practice today. “It’s newsworthy, definitely. However the guys which were within the locker room, they simply wish to go handle enterprise. It doesn’t come up for us. I perceive in these settings it’s going to return up. However it has been nothing for us.”

Whether or not or not the holdouts are a distraction has but to be seen. However Joe Burrow is aware of that it’s greatest if these contract negotiations don’t drag on for much longer.

“Me and Trey are in fixed contact,” he stated. “I believe the sooner you get these items carried out, the higher.”
