NZR has introduced the re-signing of All Blacks first five-eighth Damian McKenzie on a four-year deal till the top of 2029, guaranteeing the No.10 will play in New Zealand for the foreseeable future.

His dedication means he’ll contend for a spot with the All Blacks on the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia and the British & Irish Lions tour in 2029.

McKenzie has additionally re-committed to the Chiefs, the one Tremendous Rugby membership he has performed for since his debut in 2015.

“I’m incredibly excited to re-sign with NZ Rugby and continue my journey with both the Chiefs and All Blacks,” McKenzie said.

“The opportunity to represent both teams is something that I’ll never take for granted.

“I feel like I’ve still got a lot to give to New Zealand rugby and look forward to adding value where I can.

After leading the Chiefs to the Super Rugby Pacific final in both 2023 and 2024, a championship still awaits McKenzie at that level despite being one of the most capped players in franchise history. He has 131 Super appearances since making his debut in 2015.

“I’m extremely motivated to win a championship with the Chiefs and ultimately hope to be a part of a successful Rugby World Cup in 2027 and campaigns beyond that.”

McKenzie was the first choice No.10 for new head coach Scott Robertson with the All Blacks, going on to claim the No.10 jersey in World Rugby’s dream team of the year in 2024.

He produced memorable performances over England in July, before a clutch kick at Twickenham secured three wins in the calendar year over England.
