Zimbabwe will probably be up towards Sri Lanka within the first of the two-match ODI sequence. This article provides details about Sri Lanka’s Playing 11 vs Zimbabwe for the first match of the series.

Sri Lanka Playing 11 vs Zimbabwe- 1st ODI, Sri Lanka Tour of Zimbabwe 2025:

    Openers: Pathum Nissanka, Nishan Madushka

Lanka would like to continue the momentum that they have on their side in ODI courtesy of a win in their last ODI series against Bangladesh, and get off to a strong start in the opening match of the series against Zimbabwe.

The onus will be on the batters to get the team off to a good start by applying themself to what is expected to be a challenging wicket to bat on at least in the first innings.

The Lankan batting will depend a lot on their top three batters that too a lot more on the openers, as compared to the number three batter.

If the pair of Pathum Nissanka and Nishan Madushka can do their job perfectly of negotiating the first ten overs and getting the team off to a steady start, Sri Lanka will be able to entertain the thoughts of posting an above-par total.

Middle-order batsmen and all-rounders: Kusal Mendis, Sadeera Samarawickrama (wk), Charith Asalanka (c), Kamindu Mendis, Janith Liyanage, Dunith Wellalage

The openers would also want the middle order batters to capitalize on the start they give the team to exert more pressure on the opposition bowlers.

A lot will depend on how the captain of the team, Charith Asalanka, plays in the middle overs.

If the left-hand batter is able to play in his usual aggressive manner and keep the game moving by building partnerships with the lower middle order, then Lanka will have a great chance of outplaying Zimbabwe.

Having said that, Asalanka would want good support from the likes of Sadeera Samarawickerma to increase the team’s chances of displaying a strong effort with the bat and make things difficult for the opposition.

Bowlers: Maheesh Theekshana, Asitha Fernando, Dushmantha Chameera

If we talk about their bowling attack for the two-match ODI series against Zimbabwe, it looks strong at least on paper, but a lot will be determined by how it performs on the field.

Sri Lanka’s bowling comprises names like Maheesh Theekshana, Asitha Fernando, and Dushmantha Chameera, all of whom have the ability to win the match on their own for Sri Lanka.

Lanka is expected to go in with two specialist fast bowlers in the form of Asitha Fernando and Dushmantha Chameera.

While Janith Liyanage, the fast bowling all-rounder, can fulfill the role of the third fast bowling option.

The likes of Maheesh Theekshana, Charith Asalanka, Kamindu Mendis, and Dunith Wellalage will be the four spin bowling options, with Theekshana and Wellalage being the two specialist spinners.

However, the bowling combination that the visitors will go with in the first ODI might change depending on the conditions, with one spinner making way for a fast bowler.
